About Veneto Wines
Veneto, in the northeast around Verona and Venice, is one of Italy's most productive and varied wine regions, and the home of this shop. Its most celebrated red is Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, made from partly dried Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes into a rich, powerful wine, with Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG its sweet ancestor. Everyday Valpolicella and the fuller Ripasso come from the same hills north of Verona. On the white side, Soave gives fresh, almond scented wines from the Garganega grape. West toward Lake Garda, Bardolino makes light, fresh reds, with Bardolino Superiore holding a DOCG. To the east, the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG produces the finest hillside Prosecco from the Glera grape. The appassimento method of drying grapes, used for Amarone and Recioto, is the region's defining craft. From sparkling Prosecco to profound Amarone, Veneto spans the full range of Italian wine.
