About Umbria Wines
Umbria, the green landlocked region beside Tuscany, punches above its size with two very different wines. Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG is one of Italy's most tannic and long lived reds, made from the local Sagrantino grape in dry and sweet passito styles. Orvieto DOC, in the west, is a historic white based on Grechetto and Trebbiano, once famed in its sweet form. Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, built on Sangiovese, completes the region's serious reds. Sagrantino carries some of the highest tannin levels of any grape, so the best wines need time to soften. Grechetto is the more characterful half of the Orvieto blend and increasingly bottled on its own. The Lungarotti family put Torgiano on the map and helped raise the region's ambitions. Hill country, warm days and cool nights give Umbrian wines both power and freshness.

A verdant, foggy, snow-capped dream of a region.
