Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG “Antonio Castagnedi” 2021
Wine Description
This Amarone is produced by Tenuta Sant’Antonio, a winery established by the four Castagnedi brothers in the Mezzane di Sotto municipality within the Monti Garbi district of Valpolicella, Verona. The wine is a blend of Corvina and Corvinone (70%), Rondinella (20%), Croatina (5%), and Oseleta (5%), grown on sandy, silty soils with white skeletal limestone at approximately 300 metres above sea level. After a double hand selection, the grapes undergo appassimento for a minimum of three months, losing significant water weight while concentrating sugars and flavour compounds. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks for around 25 days using selected yeasts, followed by natural malolactic fermentation and ageing for 24 months in new 500-litre oak barrels with weekly batonnage during the first year. The resulting wine is deeply coloured ruby red with purple reflections, full-bodied and structured, with the tannin and acidity needed to develop further over time. The 2021 vintage in Valpolicella was marked by warm, dry conditions that supported good concentration in the dried fruit.
