Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico 2021
Wine Description
Domini Veneti's Amarone is the cooperative's calling card, the wine that carries the house style of Negrar into the appellation's most famous category. Corvina leads the blend with Corvinone and Rondinella, as is traditional for Amarone, and the bunches dry for months in ventilated lofts through the autumn before a slow winter fermentation takes them to full dryness. Aging in wooden casks rounds the wine into its familiar shape: dried cherry and plum, raisin, cocoa and sweet spice over soft tannins and generous warmth.
The 2021 is young for Amarone, already approachable but built to develop over many years in a good cellar. Give it an hour in a decanter and serve at 18 °C with braised or roast red meats, risotto all'Amarone, aged Monte Veronese or, in the Venetian manner, fegato alla veneziana with polenta. It is the bottle to open when the table expects Verona at its warmest.
Winery
Domini Veneti is the premium label of Cantina Valpolicella Negrar, a growers' cooperative founded in 1933 in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica. The cellar holds a special place in Amarone history: in 1936 a cask of Recioto that fermented fully dry produced an early example of the style that later carried the region's name around the world. Launched in 1989, the Domini Veneti line draws on members' best plots around Negrar and the Classica hills, with site selections such as Or'Jago and Pruviniano alongside classic Amarone, Ripasso and Valpolicella.
