About Trentino-Alto Adige Wines
This alpine region in the far north joins two provinces with a shared love of precise, mountain grown wine. Alto Adige DOC, German speaking and cool, is celebrated for aromatic whites such as Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon, alongside the deep native red Lagrein. Trentino DOC, to the south, is the home of Teroldego Rotaliano and a major source of metodo classico sparkling wine. Trentodoc is the region's respected traditional method sparkling appellation. Steep, high altitude vineyards and big day to night temperature swings give the whites their tension and perfume. Lagrein and Teroldego provide dark, structured reds with real local identity. Schiava, or Vernatsch, makes light, easy drinking reds for everyday tables. Few regions in Italy match the sheer cleanliness and reliability of its white wines.
