Wine Description
DianaDes' Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore carries the label's aim of precision without heaviness into Verona's most familiar method: the young Valpolicella is refermented on Amarone marcs, as is traditional for the appellation, gaining color, body and a dried cherry accent while keeping its drive. The fruit comes from the limestone hills around Verona, from the growers the project has worked with since 2016, based on the traditional trio of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella.
The style stays fresh and legible: morello cherry and plum with a warm dried fruit shade, soft spice, medium full body and a clean, dry finish that belongs at dinner. It drinks well from the day of release and over the following few years. Serve at 16 to 18 °C, opened half an hour ahead, with bigoli with duck ragù, fegato alla veneziana with polenta, or grilled and braised meats.
Winery
DianaDes is a young Valpolicella label, started in 2016 by Diana, a professional sommelier and restaurateur, together with the Veronese enologist Daniele Cagliari. The project works through long standing partnerships with growers in the limestone hills around Verona rather than from owned estate vineyards, and the stated aim is precision without heaviness and structure without excess, traditional Veneto varieties read in a modern key. The short range runs from a Valpolicella Ripasso through Amarone to Zeus, a dried grape Corvinone from a single vineyard at Mezzane di Sotto.
