About Italo Cescon

History
Italo Cescon started his winery in 1957 in Roncadelle di Ormelle, in the province of Treviso. At that time the Piave area made mostly simple wines, and the area is now far better known for Prosecco. From the beginning Italo bottled his own production instead of selling wine in bulk, which was not the usual choice around him.
The winery's own site describes the family as wine artisans, and it credits papà Italo with teaching his children to value what is rare. Today his children Gloria, Graziella and Domenico run the house, with their mother Chiara still close to it.
The land and the vineyards
The home territory is the Piave plain and the low hills around Ormelle. The winery speaks of the soil as the thing that shapes each wine's character. The family also farms organic vineyards and has holdings in Friuli and Valpolicella besides the Piave.
The wines
Il Tralcetto is the house's simple, direct label. The name comes from the small piece of vine branch tied to the neck of the bottle, an old signature of the winery. TesiRare is presented as a more developed expression of the family's work.
Madre is the wine that put the winery in front of a wider public. It is a Manzoni Bianco from the Veneto, and the winery lists awards for it across several vintages, including Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso.
Today
Italo Cescon remains a family company, and the second generation now makes the decisions. It shows how a Piave producer can work on quality grapes and local varieties while the neighbours focus on sparkling wine.
