Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2016
Luca Maroni 95
Wine Description
Amarone della Valpolicella is produced from partially dried Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes, a process known as appassimento that typically lasts 90 to 120 days. Corte Canella is a smaller Valpolicella producer whose wines reflect traditional winemaking methods of the zone. The 2016 vintage in Valpolicella was generally well regarded, characterized by a warm growing season that supported good sugar concentration in the drying grapes. Amarone at this level typically undergoes extended maceration and aging in large oak casks for a minimum of two years as required by DOCG regulations. The resulting wine is dense and structured, with the characteristic bittersweet quality implied by the name ‘Amarone.’ The wine benefits from significant bottle age and should be decanted well before serving to allow its complex aromas to fully develop.
