About Serafini&Vidotto

History
Serafini e Vidotto began with two school friends who saw the hills of Nervesa della Battaglia for the first time in 1985. There were only a few vineyards then, but the place was enough to inspire them, and the first harvest under their names was 1986. The winery says it has looked after the landscape for over 36 years, with a steady idea of wine built on finesse, cleanness, identity and character. The area has plenty of history of its own, from the Galateo to the battle of the Piave.
A new generation is now in the cellar. Matteo Serafini grew up among the vines and trained as a winemaker, with time abroad and studies at the schools of Conegliano and San Michele all'Adige. The winery also stresses its team: people who joined the company stayed, and it says the real value of its wine lies in their work.
The land and the vineyards
The vineyards are in Nervesa della Battaglia, in the province of Treviso, inside the Montello and Colli Asolani DOC area. This is the first line of hills northwest of Treviso, with the Piave river to the north and the Canale del Bosco to the south. The soils are mostly dark reddish brown, iron rich clays. The winery has decided not to enlarge its vineyards and to concentrate on quality and sustainability.
Plots carry local names: Dalle Piscine, Dallo Stagno, Colmel on the highest hill in the town, Da Baracca, and Dagli Svizzeri in Santa Croce di Nervesa. Between them they hold Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Recantina, Manzoni and Glera.
The wines
Il Rosso dell'Abazia, from Montello Asolo DOC, leads the reds. Other still wines include two Pinot Nero bottlings, Phigaia After the Red and After the White, Manzoni Bianco and Recantina. The sparkling wines are Marquise, an Extra Brut, and the Bollicine range: Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Prosecco DOC Treviso and a rose.
Today
The vineyards are fed with compost or organic fertilizer and are not treated with herbicides, with weeds often hoed by hand. Picking and sorting are done by hand, and the cellar aims for as few interventions as possible. Sulphur dioxide is held well under the legal limits. The winery holds the Biodiversity Friend certification and received the Bandiera Verde award from the farmers' confederation CIA in 2011. The winery offers visits and tastings.
