Valpolicella Classico DOC “Le Miniere” 2024
Wine Description
Le Miniere di Novare is a single vineyard Valpolicella Classico from Bertani's Tenuta Novare estate in Arbizzano di Negrar, taken from 4.01 hectares on two terraces that face southwest above an old mine shaft, which gives the wine its name. The blend is Corvina Veronese 70% from the estate's own massal selection, Corvinone 20% and Rondinella 10%. Vinification is deliberately simple: six to nine months in concrete vats and at least six months in bottle, with no oak to get between the fruit and the drinker. The glass is bright ruby, all cherry and forest fruits with a twist of white pepper, sapid and graceful on the palate with a mineral, persistent close. Serve it at 14 to 16 °C, no decanting needed: it is built for salumi, pasta e fagioli, roast chicken or the meat polpette served in Venetian bacari. The 2022 is ready now and at its best in its youth.
Winery
Bertani was founded in 1857 and stands among the oldest names in Verona wine. Its home is Tenuta Novare in Arbizzano di Negrar, an estate of vineyards, olive groves and deep cellars in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, with further vineyards in the Valpantena valley northeast of the city. The house style has never chased fashion: patient fermentations, long aging in large Slavonian oak casks and wines that stay dry and fresh, built on Corvina Veronese. Its Amarone Classico, released only after years in cask and bottle, remains a reference point for the whole appellation.
