About Marco Buvoli

History
L'Opificio del Pinot Nero, the winery of Marco Buvoli, began on a winter evening in 1997. Marco was sitting by the fire with an old Champagne Blanc de Noirs and decided to make sparkling wine from Pinot Nero in the hills near Vicenza. He set aside part of his house as a cellar, and the company was founded to sell the wines that grew out of that idea.
The land and the vineyards
The winery is at Gambugliano, in the municipality of Sovizzo in the Vicenza hills, in Veneto. Pinot Nero is the main grape. Third party listings describe the farming as organic and biodynamic.
The wines
Most of the range is Metodo Classico sparkling wine, with cuvées numbered by their time on the lees, such as Tre, Rosé Tre, Cinque, Super Sei, Rosé Sette, Dieci and Dodici, plus a Solera. There is also a still Pinot Noir, which rests twelve months in small barriques and twenty months in bottle, and a separate line called Garage Wine. Marco says that with good raw material, making wine is a natural process.
Today
Marco Buvoli is both founder and winemaker. The cellar is small, and visits and tastings are held on weekends by booking only, with limited places.
