About Giodo

History
Podere Giodo is the personal estate of the oenologist Carlo Ferrini. Sources give 2001 or 2002 as the start, when he bought a first hectare in Montalcino. The name joins the first syllables of his parents' names, Giovanna and Donatello. His daughter Bianca now works beside him through the year.
The land and the vineyards
The Montalcino vineyards cover roughly five and a half to six hectares, according to retailers and importers, and are planted to Sangiovese. The estate's own site calls Giodo first of all a story of Sangiovese. Ferrini also farms old bush trained vines, called alberelli, on Mount Etna in Sicily.
The wines
From Montalcino the estate makes Giodo Brunello di Montalcino, Prètto Brunello di Montalcino, Giodo Rosso di Montalcino and La Quinta, a Toscana IGT red. The first Brunello released was the 2009 vintage. From Etna come Alberelli di Giodo in two versions: a red from Nerello Mascalese and a white from Carricante. The website notes that the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino earned the Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso.
Today
Production stays small and follows one idea: let Sangiovese speak clearly, with Carlo Ferrini and his daughter Bianca overseeing every stage from vineyard to bottle.
