Wine Description
Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is produced by Carlo Ferrini and his daughter Bianca at Podere Giodo, a six-hectare estate situated between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo in the southern part of the Montalcino denomination, at around 360 metres above sea level with south-east exposure. The wine is made exclusively from 15 selected Sangiovese clones grown on medium-textured soils with a pebble content, trained to a single-armed cordon Guyot system at a density of 6,600 vines per hectare. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with 20 days of skin contact, including 7 days of alcoholic fermentation, with a délestage performed halfway through. Maturation lasts approximately two and a half years in 700-litre French oak casks alongside cocciopesto amphorae and concrete vats, followed by a minimum of 18 months of bottle ageing before release. The 2019 vintage in Montalcino was characterised by sufficient rainfall and moderately warm temperatures, described by the Giodo team as resembling the classic vintages of the 1990s, yielding wines of notable purity, structure and freshness.
