Valpolicella DOC Superiore 2021
Wine Description
Musella's Valpolicella Superiore is the clearest window onto the estate: hand picked Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella from Demeter certified biodynamic vineyards at San Martino Buon Albergo, fermented on indigenous yeasts and raised with a light touch so the fruit, not the cellar, does the talking. A spell of aging earns it the Superiore name while the style stays bright and unforced.
It drinks the way good Superiore should: red cherry and plum with violets, white pepper and a mineral, faintly earthy line, medium bodied, supple and finishing with the appellation's signature almond twist. It is ready on release and happy for several years. Serve at 16 °C, no decanting required, with fegato alla veneziana, bigoli al torchio, pasta e fasioi, roast chicken, grilled sausages with polenta or a spread of sopressa and young cheeses; it is also the rare red that handles baccalà alla vicentina with grace.
Winery
Musella lies inside a walled estate of over 400 hectares at San Martino Buon Albergo, on the eastern edge of the Valpolicella, where vines share the land with woodland, olive groves and fruit trees. The Pasqua di Bisceglie family set up the winery in 1995 and farms its roughly 25 hectares biodynamically, with Demeter certification, indigenous yeast ferments and a light hand in the cellar under winemaker Enrico Raber. The range runs from Valpolicella Superiore and Ripasso up to Amarone, Amarone Riserva and Recioto, all built on Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella.
