Soave DOC Classico “Monte Grande” 2008
Wine Description
Monte Grande is a single-vineyard Soave Classico produced by Graziano Prà from a 60-year-old plot in Monteforte d’Alpone, at 150 metres altitude on south-facing volcanic basalt soils. The blend is 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano di Soave, the latter being a local variety related to Verdicchio that adds acidity and aromatic lift. Garganega is managed using the tralcio cimato technique, a partial cane-cutting method that concentrates the fruit before harvest, while the wine is fermented and aged in large oak casks. The volcanic terroir gives the wine its characteristic mineral backbone, and the structure from the fruit concentration combined with the natural acidity of Trebbiano di Soave supports extended bottle ageing. The 2014 vintage in Soave saw a cool, extended growing season that preserved natural freshness and acidity. Monte Grande has received the Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri award on multiple occasions, underscoring its consistent quality as one of the appellation’s leading single-vineyard wines.
