Barolo DOCG “Prapò” 2022
Wine Advocate 94
Wine Description
The Prapò cru sits within Serralunga d’Alba at 370 metres above sea level with a south-southeast orientation. The 0.7-hectare plot was acquired by the Scavino family and planted using massal selection with loose-clustered Nebbiolo clones chosen for low yields and even ripening. Soils are Formazioni di Lequio, a mix of yellow-red sand and silty grey marl typical of Serralunga, which drives the firm structure and mineral character in the wine. Fruit for the 2022 is harvested by hand in the third week of October, followed by 12 days of skin maceration and a 20 to 30 day fermentation in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged in a combination of neutral French barrique and large casks for two years before bottling, with approximately 4,300 bottles produced.
