Gavi del Comune di Gavi DOCG “Rovereto” 2024
Wine Enthusiast 91
Wine Description
This wine is made entirely from Cortese grapes grown in the Rovereto cru, located within the municipality of Gavi in southern Piedmont, at altitudes of 400 to 500 metres above sea level. The soils are reddish calcareous clay-marl of volcanic origin, rich in iron and magnesium, and the site benefits from a singular microclimate shaped by sea breezes from the Ligurian coast and the nearby Apennine mountains. Vines average 25 years of age and undergo strict canopy management and a summer green harvest, leaving five to six bunches per vine to concentrate fruit quality. A portion of the hand-harvested grapes are cold-macerated before soft pressing; fermentation takes place in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius using native yeasts. The wine rests on its fine lees in stainless steel for at least five months before further bottle refinement, a process that adds texture and maintains the purity and freshness of the fruit. Kobrand, the US importer, notes the wine has potential to age for seven to eight years from vintage.
