Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva “Il Fornetto” 2017

Wine Description
Il Fornetto is Stefano Accordini's Amarone Riserva, produced in limited quantity from the vineyard of the same name, planted in 1975 on deep clay in the high Fumane valley.
Corvina Veronese, Corvinone and Rondinella dry slowly in small 6 kg crates in the fruit room, where noble botrytis converts part of the sugar into glycerine and adds an extra layer of complexity; after fermentation the wine ages four years in oak barrels.
At 16.5% it is very deep ruby, with a broad bouquet of cherry, dried fruit, vanilla, black pepper and licorice, and a palate of exceptional strength held together by real elegance.
The 2017 is young for a Riserva of this scale and will develop for up to twenty years.
Serve at 18 °C, decanted well ahead, with game, aged cheese or, as the family suggests, a square of 90% dark chocolate at the end of the meal.
Winery
Stefano Accordini is a family winery of the Valpolicella Classica whose modern cellar at Cavalo, above the Fumane valley, stands among the highest in the zone, with vineyards reaching about 550 meters. Generations of Accordini have worked these hills; today Tiziano and Daniele, with Eleonora, Raffaella, Giacomo, Paolo and Marco, farm some 25 hectares organically and run an energy conscious cellar. The name Il Fornetto belongs to the family's prized vineyard, planted in 1975 on deep clay soils, whose fruit goes into the top wines of the house.
