Corvina Veronese IGT “Cresasso” 2009
Falstaff 92Wine Enthusiast 91
Wine Description
Cresasso is produced entirely from Corvina Veronese grapes grown in the Costalunga estate in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, at altitudes of 300 to 350 metres above sea level. The soil is predominantly morainic limestone, rich in stone fragments with clay, composed mainly of white and white-pink marl limestones known as Biancone and Scaglia Rossa. The harvest takes place in two distinct phases: a first selection is made in the second half of September, when grapes are placed in crates and left to dry for two months before fermenting for approximately 20 days, then aged for 24 months in French oak casks. The remaining Corvina is left to over-ripen on the vine until the end of October, after which it is fermented in stainless steel tanks with no oak contact. Cresasso is the final blend of these two fermentations, combining the richness and structure of the dried-grape component with the freshness of the late-harvest portion. The wine is trained using Guyot with 6 to 8 buds per plant and yields approximately 8 tonnes per hectare.
