Corvina Veronese IGT “Cresasso” 2016
Wine Enthusiast 94
Wine Description
Cresasso is made from 100% Corvina Veronese grown in Zenato’s Costalunga estate in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella, at altitudes of 300 to 350 metres above sea level on predominantly calcareous morainic soils rich in rock fragments and clay. Vines are trained on Guyot with 6 to 8 buds per plant, and the harvest takes place in two distinct manual phases: an initial selection in the second half of September, with grapes placed in crates and dried for approximately two months, followed by a late harvest of the remaining Corvina, which is left to over-ripen on the vine until the end of October. Fermentation lasts around 20 days, after which the wine is aged for 24 months in French oak casks, followed by a further resting period in the cellar before release. The wine presents a deep, dense ruby red colour with aromas of red fruit, black cherry, blackberry and plum, and a full-bodied, mineral palate with firm, ripe tannins and a long, savoury finish.
