Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva 2013
Wine Description
Le Ragose Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 2013 is produced by the Galli family from around 16 hectares of vineyards above Arbizzano, on the ridge that forms the eastern boundary of the Valpolicella Classico zone. The blend is 50% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, and 10% other authorised local varieties, all hand-harvested in September and dried on single-layer plastic trays in a temperature and humidity-controlled drying loft until December or January, a process known as appassimento. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks over approximately 20 to 30 days using indigenous yeasts, followed by 8 to 10 months in stainless steel storage vessels. The wine then ages for four to six years in large Slavonian oak casks ranging from 10 to 60 hectoliters before bottling. The 2013 vintage received 95 points and the highest score in its category at the Amarone Opera Prima competition, reflecting the quality of a year that produced wines of firm structure and considerable aging potential.
