Vermentino “Orange”
Wine Description
Tenuta Fertuna is located at Gavorrano in the Maremma Toscana, on soils rich in galestro and alberese, with a Mediterranean microclimate and a strong diurnal temperature range. This wine is made from 100% Vermentino grown on vines averaging 20 years of age with south-east exposure. After manual grape selection, fermentation takes place at 20°C on the skins for 5 days, then continues off the skins at 18°C, with no added sulfites at any stage of production. Malolactic fermentation is followed by 6 months of aging on fine lees in small steel vats with weekly batonnage, giving the wine its characteristic golden color with red-gold reflections. The result is a skin-contact white wine that combines Vermentino’s natural brightness and salinity with added textural grip and complexity from the maceration process.
