About Tommasi / De Buris
De Buris is the riserva project of the Tommasi family, developed under the family's oenologist Giancarlo Tommasi and centred on Villa De Buris, a historic property of the Valpolicella Classica whose ancient cellar shelters the bottles as they age. The wine comes from La Groletta in Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella, a ten hectare hillside at 250 metres facing southwest toward Lake Garda, with a 1.9 hectare parcel set aside for the riserva on clay and limestone soils. Only one wine is made, an Amarone Classico Riserva, only in years that deserve it, and it is released solely after long aging in cask and bottle.
Prices are for take away and shipping. The wine bar serves from its own list.

About Tommasi / De Buris

History
De Buris is a single vineyard Amarone from Tommasi, the family company of Pedemonte in Valpolicella Classica, which has made wine there since 1902. Tommasi's own timeline places the launch of De Buris in 2018, while press reports on the first release refer to the 2008 vintage, a Riserva of fewer than 8,000 bottles. The name comes from Villa De Buris, a 15th century villa in San Pietro in Cariano that serves as the ageing cellar for this wine.
The land and the vineyards
The grapes come from La Groletta, a vineyard on Mount La Grola on the western edge of Valpolicella, which the family bought in 2000. One wine journal describes it as a small vineyard of about 1.9 hectares and places it in Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella.
The wines
De Buris is an Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva. Reports on the first vintages say the best grapes are laid on traditional bamboo racks called arele and dried for about 110 days. The wine then spends years in oak before release. Tommasi makes it only in small quantities.
Today
De Buris sits at the top of the Tommasi Amarone range, next to the Amarone Classico that the family has made since 1959. The company is run by the fourth generation and farms around 800 hectares across Italy. Guests can taste at the Pedemonte cellars near Verona.
