About Tedeschi
The Tedeschi family has grown grapes in Valpolicella since the 1630s, one of the oldest names in the appellation, with cellars at Pedemonte in the Classico zone. Today the estate is run by the siblings Antonietta, Sabrina and Riccardo Tedeschi; Sabrina also presides over the association of the Amarone families. Holdings run from the historic Monte Olmi plot, in the family since 1918, and the high La Fabriseria vineyard to Tenuta Maternigo, 84 hectares between Tregnago and Mezzane bought in 2006, where the house has invested heavily in vineyard mapping and zoning research.
Prices are for take away and shipping. The wine bar serves from its own list.

About Tedeschi

History
The Tedeschi family says it has believed in local wine production since 1630. The modern chapter opened in the 1960s with Lorenzo Tedeschi. In 1918 the family had acquired the Monte Olmi vineyard, and Lorenzo was the first to vinify its grapes separately. That choice led to the Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi, a wine that still carries the name of the hill.
The land and the vineyards
The winery is at Pedemonte, in the Valpolicella Classica zone, and the family concentrates on hillside vineyards at roughly 200 to 500 metres. Three estates are named. Monte Olmi, at Pedemonte in San Pietro in Cariano, is a sunny hillside of terraces. Fabriseria, at Le Pontare between Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella and Fumane, was planted in the early 2000s, and two stone crosses, probably of Celtic origin, stand in the vineyard.
Maternigo was acquired in 2006. It lies between Tregnago and Mezzane di Sotto, covers 84 hectares and is a hilltop property with a building whose oldest part dates to the fifteenth century. The family studies the soil of each parcel and shapes its work in the vines according to how they grow there, and the winery lists sustainability among its principles. Harvests and ageing follow the same parcel by parcel logic, which is why single estate names matter so much on the labels.
The wines
Amarone is the centre of the range, in three versions: Capitel Monte Olmi and Fabriseria, both Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva, and Maternigo, an Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva. Next to them are Nicalò, a Valpolicella Superiore, and GA.RY, a white from the Veneto IGT.
The cellar also keeps an archive of older vintages: about 27,000 bottles in all, with about 6,800 kept in the archive hall. Vintages from the 2000s are sold, while earlier and scarcer ones are reserved for vertical tastings. Riccardo Tedeschi recalls his father's lesson that you must first make a great wine before an Amarone can age well.
Today
Three family members work in the business. Antonietta has shaped the winery's strategy for over thirty years and oversees the brand in Italy. Sabrina leads the international side, and Riccardo is the family enologist.
