About Puglia Wines
Puglia, the heel of Italy, is a warm, sun drenched region that has moved from bulk supplier to a source of characterful, well priced reds. Primitivo di Manduria DOC gives ripe, generous wines of dark fruit and spice, with a sweet version holding its own DOCG. Salice Salentino DOC and the wider Salento are the home of Negroamaro, a savoury, warming red. In the north, Castel del Monte DOCG works the local Nero di Troia grape. Primitivo is a genetic match for Zinfandel, which explains its rich, jammy appeal. Old bush vines, trained as alberello, still dot the flat, hot Salento plain. Rosato has a long tradition here, and the region makes some of Italy's best value pink wines. Sea breezes and limestone soils temper the heat, giving the better wines more freshness than their ripeness suggests.
Prices are for take away and shipping. The wine bar serves from its own list.
