Verduno Pelaverga DOC 2024
Wine Description
Poderi Colla was founded in 1993 by Ernesto ‘Tino’ Colla and his niece Federica, drawing on a long family history in Piedmontese winemaking. The Verduno Pelaverga is made entirely from Pelaverga Piccolo, a rare indigenous grape variety grown only in and around the village of Verduno in the Langhe hills. The vines grow in clay, limestone, and sandy soils at roughly 250 metres altitude. Grapes are harvested in mid-September, destemmed and pressed, with a short skin maceration at a controlled temperature of 22 to 24 degrees Celsius. The wine is pale ruby in colour, light in body, and shows characteristic notes of spice and red fruit. Verduno Pelaverga DOC is one of Piedmont’s smallest appellations, and Pelaverga Piccolo cannot be newly planted, making bottles from this appellation increasingly scarce.
