About Braida - Giacomo Bologna
Braida is a family winery based in Rocchetta Tanaro in the Asti province of Piedmont, Italy, founded by Giacomo Bologna in the 1960s. The estate is widely credited with elevating Barbera d'Asti to international recognition, particularly through its single-vineyard bottlings such as Bricco dell'Uccellone and Bricco della Bigotta. Today the winery is run by Giacomo's children, Raffaella and Giuseppe Bologna, and continues to focus on Barbera alongside other indigenous Piedmontese varieties.
Prices are for take away and shipping. The wine bar serves from its own list.

About Braida - Giacomo Bologna

History
Braida di Bologna Giacomo is the Barbera estate of Rocchetta Tanaro, close to Asti. It traces its start to 1961 and to Giacomo Bologna, who took over the Braida name and a small Barbera vineyard. The name itself comes from the trattoria Giacomo's father opened in 1958.
Giacomo is remembered for giving Barbera a place at the table of serious wine. He worked on it from the 1960s through the 1980s.
The land and the vineyards
Home is Rocchetta Tanaro, in the Monferrato. Later the Bologna family added vineyards between Monferrato and Langa, a second cellar, a wine resort and a range of white wines from Serra dei Fiori.
The wines
Bricco dell'Uccellone, first made in 1982 and aged in French barriques, was shown at Vinitaly in 1984 and is often described as the first Barbera sold across the world. Bricco della Bigotta came in 1985, Ai Suma in 1990. Grignolino, Moscato d'Asti and Brachetto d'Acqui complete the older range, and the first Braida white, a Timorasso, was announced in September 2025.
Today
After Giacomo died in December 1990, his wife Anna and children Raffaella and Giuseppe kept the estate going, and Raffaella's husband Norbert Reinisch handles exports. The next generation now works in the business. Braida received the Marchio Storico di Interesse Nazionale in 2024.
