Chianti Rufina DOCG Riserva “Nipozzano” 2022
Falstaff 91
Wine Description
The Nipozzano Riserva comes from Castello Nipozzano, a Frescobaldi estate located a few kilometres north-east of Florence in the Chianti Rufina zone, one of Tuscany’s cooler and higher-altitude sub-appellations. The wine is made primarily from Sangiovese with small additions of traditional complementary varieties including Malvasia and Merlot. The 2022 growing season began with good soil water reserves from the previous autumn, followed by a mild winter and a dry, hot summer tempered by the cool breezes typical of Chianti Rufina. Rainfall at the end of August and late September allowed both early and late grape varieties to complete their ripening with well-balanced fruit concentration. Fermentation occurs in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks, followed by maceration and malolactic fermentation also in stainless steel, before ageing in oak. The result is an intense, ruby-red wine with good structure, fine tannins, and a flavour profile that balances fruit, mineral freshness, and restrained spice.
