Morellino di Scansano DOCG Riserva 2021 – MAGNUM

Fattoria Le Pupille is a 75-hectare estate in the Maremma, the coastal stretch of southern Tuscany near Grosseto, run by Elisabetta Geppetti. The Riserva is the oldest wine in the Le Pupille lineup, originally produced as Rosso di Pereta before Morellino di Scansano received its appellation rules in 1978. The blend is approximately 90% Sangiovese (locally called Morellino) and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawn from 14 hectares of vineyards on sandstone and clay soils. After fermentation, the wine ages for around 15 months in large Slavonian oak vats, which integrates the oak without overwhelming the fruit. The 2021 vintage shows a dense, structured profile with dark fruit, earthy notes, firm tannins, and a mineral, saline finish typical of the Maremma coastal influence. The wine rewards patience and will continue to develop in bottle over several years.
