About Sansonina
Sansonina is a wine producer based on the shores of Lake Garda, operating within the Lugana DOC appellation on the border of Lombardy and Veneto in northern Italy. The estate focuses on white wines made from Turbiana, the indigenous grape variety that defines Lugana. Its bottlings, such as the 'Sansonina in Laguna' Lugana DOC, reflect the mineral and lacustrine character associated with the appellation's clay-rich soils.
Prices are for take away and shipping. The wine bar serves from its own list.

About Sansonina

History
Sansonina is an estate at Peschiera del Garda, run by the Zenato family. Nadia Zenato and her mother Carla bought an old farmhouse with vineyards in the mid 1990s, and the name is said to come from the Biblical figure of Samson, with an Italian diminutive ending. The Zenato family already made wine at San Benedetto di Lugana.
The land and the vineyards
The estate has about 13 hectares of clay and fine silt over a rocky, limestone base, which comes from an ancient lake bed and differs from the glacial soils of the wider Peschiera area. It also had an old Merlot vineyard in a zone known for white wine, and the family chose to make red wine from it. The Trebbiano di Lugana vines are around 60 years old, according to the producer sheet.
The wines
Sansonina makes Lugana from Trebbiano di Lugana and a red from the old Merlot. The cellar was built by renovating existing farm buildings, and the winemaking uses gravity rather than pumps.
Today
Nadia Zenato has handed 30 percent of her shares in Zenato to her brother Alberto and now works full time at Sansonina.
