About Podere Forte

History
Podere Forte was started in 1997 by Pasquale Forte in the Val d'Orcia, at Petrucci in the municipality of Castiglione d'Orcia, in the province of Siena. The valley has been listed by UNESCO since 2004. The estate describes its aim as recreating the ancient Roman cortes, a model in which people, plants and animals live and work together.
The land and the vineyards
The property covers about 500 hectares in total, including roughly 26 hectares of olive groves. Podere Forte follows organic and biodynamic principles. Its livestock feed on biodynamic forage and seeds, and the estate makes its own fertilisers and compost.
The wines
The wines include Guardiavigna, Petrucci Anfiteatro, Petrucci Melo, Petruccino, Villaggio and Corfiero. The estate also runs a Metodo Classico project, keeps a vintage journal called Diario delle Vendemmie, and offers a selection it calls La Bottiglia Forte.
