About Pietro Zardini
Pietro Zardini founded his cellar in San Pietro in Cariano in 2000, but the roots go deeper: he grew up at Corte Zardini in San Floriano, studied agricultural science, qualified as a sommelier and worked with several large Verona houses through the 1990s before setting out under the name of his grandfather. The vineyards lie at Monte Mattonara in San Floriano and Valfiorita in Negrar, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, and the cellar holds sixteen amphorae of raw clay alongside oak of every size, a combination that gives the wines their warm, spiced and quietly old fashioned character.

About Pietro Zardini

History
Agricola Pietro Zardini is based at San Floriano, in San Pietro in Cariano, in the Valpolicella Classica zone. The winery's own site calls it the result of a continuous evolution with roots that run deep and far back in the territory, without giving dates. A retailer profile describes a family that has worked a small vineyard at San Floriano since the early 1900s, with the current Pietro starting independent production in 2000 at the age of 19.
The land and the vineyards
The retailer profile puts the estate at about 7 hectares around the old Corte Zardini in San Floriano. The winery's website speaks of tasting among the vines of Valpolicella and of staying there overnight, but it does not list vineyard names or sizes.
The wines
The winery is known for the way it uses clay amphorae alongside wood. Riserva Decem is fermented in a wooden vat, aged in amphora and then finished in a small barrel. Hercules, a Valpolicella Superiore, combines amphora and wood ageing. Recioto Anfora is aged in clay amphorae. Riserva Leone is an Amarone Riserva made in small quantities, and the Rosignol red is blended from Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara.
Today
Visitors can book tastings at the winery, from a classic tasting to a vertical of Riserva wines, and can also stay overnight.
