About Guado al Tasso
Antinori is a historic Florentine wine producer with roots dating back to 1385, making it one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the world. Based in Tuscany, the estate is known for producing influential wines across multiple Tuscan appellations, including Chianti Classico, Bolgheri, and Montalcino. Antinori played a central role in the development of the so-called Super Tuscans, notably with wines such as Tignanello and Solaia.

About Guado al Tasso

History
Guado al Tasso lies on the coast of the upper Maremma, in the Bolgheri area of Tuscany, and belongs to the Antinori family. The land was farmed by the Della Gherardesca family from the late 1600s. Count Guido Alberto Della Gherardesca, who lived from 1780 to 1854, gave the estate its real push after serving as majordomo to Grand Duke Leopold II. In the 1930s the property passed to Carlotta Della Gherardesca Antinori, mother of Piero Antinori, and to her sister, who was married to Mario Incisa della Rocchetta. Decanter reports the first Guado al Tasso vintage as 1990.
The land and the vineyards
About 320 hectares are planted to vine on a plain ringed by hills, known as the Bolgheri Amphitheatre. The soils are alluvial, from sandy clay to silty clay, and rich in a fine gravel called agglomerate from Bolgheri. The estate grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino, with small plantings of Grenache, Viognier and Sémillon.
The wines
All the wines are Bolgheri DOC, a denomination approved in 1994. The top reds are Guado al Tasso and Matarocchio, both Superiore. Cont'Ugo and Il Bruciato are more approachable reds, Scalabrone is a rosé, and there is a Vermentino white.
Today
The estate belongs to the Antinori family, who run vineyards, experimental plots and cellars on the property.
