About Grillo Iole
Grillo Iole is a small wine producer based in the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, northeastern Italy. The estate focuses on red wines, with a particular emphasis on indigenous varieties such as Schioppettino and Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. Schioppettino from the subzone of Prepotto, where the variety has deep historical roots, is among the wines represented in the producer's range.

About Grillo Iole

History
Grillo Iole is a family winery in Albana di Prepotto, in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The founder, Sergio, bought the first hectare of vineyard in the 1970s, and his daughter now runs the estate. The cellar sits in an eighteenth century villa among the vines, which was restored in 2003, and has worked there for almost forty years.
The land and the vineyards
The estate farms about nine hectares, mostly on hillsides, with low yields per hectare and sustainable methods. Prepotto is the home of Schioppettino, an old red grape of the Friulian hills that the family treats as its main subject.
The wines
Production is around 40,000 bottles a year, with a strong lean toward native grapes. The whites include Ribolla Gialla, Friulano and Sauvignon. Reds include Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso and Schioppettino di Prepotto, also made as a Riserva. Sweet wines are Verduzzo Friulano and Picolit. The site groups the range into native and international whites and reds.
Today
The villa also takes guests as a farm stay, and the cellar opens for tastings.
