About Cesconi

History
The Cesconi family name appears for the first time in 1751, in the parish archives of Pressano, a village in the hills just north of Trento. The winery dates its tradition from that year.
In later generations the family sold wine to taverns in Trento. Paolo Cesconi enlarged the estate, and with his sons Alessandro, Franco, Roberto and Lorenzo he brought the winery into the modern era. Four brothers run it today.
The land and the vineyards
The estate covers about 6 hectares at 300 to 500 metres, and works two very different sites. The Pressano hills have ancient Werfen soils of limestone and sandstone, laid down about 260 million years ago. A second site near Lake Garda has a Mediterranean climate.
The brothers stopped using synthetic chemicals and moved all vineyards to organic farming, with EU organic certification. More recently they have started applying biodynamic principles. They aim to keep work in the cellar to a minimum.
The wines
The wines carry the IGT delle Dolomiti and Trento DOC labels. Grapes include Nosiola, a local white, along with Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Manzoni Bianco, Lagrein and Merlot.
Visitors name Olivar, a white, and Moratel, a red, along with a Trento DOC Riserva. The family also makes a small amount of olive oil from old trees in the Valle dei Laghi, north of Lake Garda, and an artisanal vermouth.
Today
The winery is a member of FIVI, the Italian federation of independent winegrowers. It receives visitors from Monday to Friday, and tours are offered in German, English and Italian.
