About Zaccagnini
Zaccagnini is an Abruzzo-based winery founded by Ciccio Zaccagnini in the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC zone near Bolognano, in the Pescara province. The estate is widely known for its Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo wines, and is particularly recognized for its signature bottle tied with a twig of grapevine. Zaccagnini is one of the more prominent producers in the region, sourcing fruit from both estate and contracted vineyards across Abruzzo.

About Zaccagnini

History
Cantina Zaccagnini is in Bolognano, in the Pescara hills of Abruzzo, and describes itself as a maker of Abruzzo wines since 1978. Since 1984 it has also been a meeting point for artists, musicians and thinkers, and the winery keeps a permanent collection of works that its own site compares to a gallery. The winery is now part of the Argea group.
The land and the vineyards
The estate has 300 hectares of vineyards spread across the Pescara hills. The winery sits between three mountain massifs, the Maiella, the Gran Sasso and the Morrone, and a steady breeze from them gives the vines a favourable microclimate. Montepulciano is the main grape, and the farming methods are described as respectful of the environment.
The wines
The range is built on grapes native to Abruzzo and is divided into lines: San Clemente, named after the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria, Chronicon, Tralcetto, Terre dell'Abate, La mia pecora in bag in box, and a group of passito sweet wines made from local red grapes. Tralcetto is the largest line, with twelve wines, each marked by a vine twig on the neck of the bottle.
Today
The cellar is a modern building with a low environmental impact and renewable energy. It holds about 15,000 hectolitres in steel tanks and a temperature controlled barrel cellar of 2,600 hectolitres, mainly French oak. Visits and tastings can be booked at the winery.
