About Tormaresca / Antinori

History
Tormaresca is the Puglia project of the Antinori family. The Antinori family began working in Puglia in 1998 under the Tormaresca name, after Piero Antinori visited the Salento in the mid 1990s and saw a rich native grape tradition that had not yet been fully shown in the glass. The family and winemaker Renzo Cotarella set out to make top quality wines from Apulian grapes. The cellar at Masseria Maime has been working since 2009.
The land and the vineyards
The company works from estates in the south of Puglia. Masseria Maime is at San Pietro Vernotico in the Salento, and Tenuta Carrubo is at Fragagnano, in the Manduria area known for Primitivo. A third site, Tenuta Bocca di Lupo, appears on the website as a place to book a visit, and other sources put it in the Castel del Monte zone.
The wines
The grapes named on the website are Primitivo, Negroamaro and Fiano Pugliese. The wines are made to show Puglia as it is, with its sun and its warm sea, as the company puts it.
Today
Tormaresca remains part of the Antinori group and welcomes visitors at its estates. The estate buildings are old Apulian farmhouses, and a small chapel stands among cypresses at one of the masserie.
