About Lo Triolet

History
Lo Triolet is a small winery in Introd, in the Aosta Valley, started by Marco Martin in 1993. He grew up among growers and later worked as a viticulture expert for the regional government, which gave him a close knowledge of the valley's vineyards. The winery says it grew out of a passion for the vine and a continuing search for the quality that Aosta Valley wines can reach. Output has risen from about 1,000 bottles at the start to roughly 60,000.
The land and the vineyards
The vineyards climb steep mountain slopes on the south side of the Dora Baltea, at about 550 to 900 metres, close to the Gran Paradiso National Park. The soils are sandy with a strong mineral part, and the large gap between warm days and cool nights gives wines that taste fresh, salty and elegant, in the words of the estate.
The wines
The range follows the valley's grapes: Pinot Gris, Muscat Petit Grain, Petite Arvine, Gamay, Nus, Pinot Noir and Fumin, plus blends such as Coteau Barrage and Mistigri. The best known bottle is Amonpère, a Vallée d'Aoste Pinot Gris, and the Pinot Noir and Fumin are also made as 100 percent varietal wines.
Today
The tasting room is in a former stable, under a brick vault with a central stone pillar. The estate also runs a small agriturismo with six apartments, a few kilometres from the park. Visits and tastings are by reservation, for groups of 2 to 40 people.
