Corvina Veronese IGT “Cresasso” 2015
Wine Description
Cresasso is made from 100% Corvina Veronese grown in the Costalunga estate in Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella at 300 to 350 metres above sea level on predominantly calcareous morainic soils rich in rock fragments. The name derives from the local dialect for this stony terrain, with ‘sasso’ meaning stone and ‘cre’ referencing the cretaceous character of the soil. The harvest is carried out in two distinct phases: an initial selection in the second half of September, with grapes laid in crates to dry for approximately two months before fermentation, and a second pass of the remaining fruit that ferments fresh. The two fermentations are then blended to form the final wine, which is fermented in stainless steel tanks for around 20 days with pump-overs, then aged for 24 months in 500-litre French oak barriques. The wine is deep ruby red, complex and structured, with the density and concentration typical of a partially dried-grape method applied to a single variety.
