Barolo DOCG Riserva “Monfortino” 2020 – MAGNUM

Monfortino is not a vineyard designation but a selection decision made by Roberto Conterno, who earmarks the finest Nebbiolo in the estate’s Serralunga d’Alba vineyards while the fruit is still on the vine. For the 2020 vintage the blend draws primarily from the core of the Francia vineyard with approximately 15% from the Arione parcel. Fermentation takes place without temperature control in wooden vats with a maceration longer than any other wine in the cellar, followed by six to seven years of ageing in large Slavonian oak casks before bottling. The 2020 growing season was an extended, unhurried one in Barolo, producing a wine of immediate fragrance and silky texture. The wine is bottled in Magnum format for this offering, and given the track record of the appellation and the estate’s ageing protocols, it will continue to develop in bottle for several decades.
