About Tenuta Fertuna

History
Tenuta Fertuna is a winery at Località Grilli in Gavorrano, in the Maremma of southern Tuscany. Retail and trade sources describe it as founded in 1997 and owned by the Meregalli family, with the wine consultant Ezio Rivella among the people involved in its early years. Vines were planted on land that had none before. The estate name is linked to the Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta, who co signs two of its wines, Pactio and Droppello.
The land and the vineyards
Sources put the estate at 145 to 150 hectares, of which about 50 are vineyards, with olive trees on the rest. The winery follows the Equalitas sustainability standard, which covers vineyard practice through to winemaking. It reports full reuse of by products and a water treatment plant that recovers all the water used in the cellar.
The wines
The list includes Celeo, Messio, Lodai and Pactio, Tuscan reds, and Droppello Alto, a white. Vermentino appears in Pactio Vermentino and Vermentino Orange. Droppello Mosso is a classic method sparkling wine, Droppello Rosé a Costa Toscana rosé, and the estate also bottles two Etrusco vermouths and extra virgin olive oil.
Today
Tenuta Fertuna also offers hospitality and a restaurant, Amorvino, on the estate.
