About Tenuta di Sesta

History
Tenuta di Sesta is a historic estate in the south of Montalcino, between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate. In 1850 the property passed to the brothers Felice and Giovanni Ciacci of Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The first Brunello di Montalcino from the estate was made in 1966, at a time when only a dozen producers bottled the wine, which makes Sesta one of the historical names of the appellation. Since 1995 the estate has been run by Giovanni Ciacci, with his children Andrea and Francesca working beside him.
The land and the vineyards
The estate spreads over about 200 hectares, with roughly 30 under vine and the rest in olive groves and fields. Sangiovese leads, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Colorino also planted. The Duelecci site has a west side that suits warm vintages and a rockier east side that suits cool ones. Costa di Monte is the highest vineyard, near the cellars, and Poggio d'Arna is the highest hill, below the red tower of the historic Villa di Sesta.
The wines
The range includes Brunello di Montalcino, a Costa di Monte selection, the Brunello Riserva Duelecci in West and East versions, and Rosso di Montalcino. Poggio d'Arna blends Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and Camponovo pairs Sangiovese with Colorino.
Today
The winery aims to respect Tuscan winemaking tradition and the land, so that the wines show the strength and elegance of Sangiovese.
